Nancy Hicks Vlog 19 – Physical Touch
Greetings Vlog Friends,
Are you a “touchy” kinda’ person? Not moody or quick tempered, but physical?
I’m an extremely “touchy” gal. I’m a big hugger. I love a good back rub! My family can attest to the lap dog in disguise (red lips and heels), in their midst.
Healthy physical touch doesn’t necessarily look like that. Not everyone’s “love language” is physical touch. Even if it is, lots of us have been jaded by unhealthy touches.
Yesterday I was at a homeless shelter in a nearby town. When it was finally time to sit down for the morning Bible time, I sat at a table with a number of men and women. The man sitting right beside me was flung over onto the table, fast asleep. His hood was up and tied tightly, very turtle- in- shell, wth just enough air space for snoring.
At one point he sat up to change positions. He leaned back in his little plastic chair, legs stretched right out, head bobbing. I felt the urge to reach over to have him lean into my arms like an five-year old with his mom. My heart was soft, but my head was on straight. Not a good idea. I’d probably have been punched or worse.
Touch is powerful. It hurts. It heals.
Check out the clip to take a look at our model of touch. Then ask yourself this: If you don’t live in a place of confident, healthy touch, what’s got in the way?
I’m real because God is so real. ~ Nancy
