Nancy Hicks Vlog 57: Christianity 101: Worship
Hi there!
Another Christian basic: Worship.
What is worship? It’s adoration. A fixed gaze. It’s placing your attention, your heart, your mind and body on God. It starts on the inside then flows out. Then again, sometimes you just have to put your body in a posture of worship until your soul lines up.
I know worship encompasses many elements, but can we just talk music? A la Psalm 100
“Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”
Where’s your worship of God these days? Give it a three? A five? A nine? Here are three tips (not an exhaustive list) to help:
- Be present. When you’re singing, notice: who are you singing to? The songs are addressing one of three groups: God, yourself, others (the Church, the enemy or non-Christians). Think about it next time you’re worshiping and be present to it. Imagine you’re actually facing them.
- Posture. Notice this. Please. Would you cross your arms in front of you to tell someone you love them and think they’re amazing? Of course not! How much does your body line up with your soul? If you’re able to throw your hands in the air at a football game or rock concert, what’s holding you back when you’re worshiping God? I’m not saying you should do that, I’m just saying, think about it.
- See Video
(A clip caught by a young woman in the crowd.)
You probably caught it: Coach yourself. Kindly speak to your soul, “Wake up. He is worthy whether or not you feel like it.”
So where are you these days with worship?
I’m real because God is so real. ~ Nancy
